Windowsill Chats Podcast

Finding the courage to develop your own style and keep putting it out into the world. A wonderful thoughtful conversation with Maria Over.

I had the pleasure to chat with the fabulous Margo Tantau on her podcast Windowsill Chats, where we talked about living a creative life and walking your own path.
Margo says: “Finding the courage to develop your own style and keep putting it out into the world.

A wonderful thoughtful conversation with Maria Over up on Windowsill Chats (…) Some gems of inspiration in this one, absolutely!”

Have a listen on Windowsill Chats for laughs, inspiration and some more on me and my art!

My Studio in Uppercase magazine

I was happy to see that my work space was featured in Uppercase’s recent #47 issue! (print only)

idN. magazine Feature

I’m very happy and proud to have a 6 page feature in the issue 26 of idN. magazine! This issue of idN. focuses on Window Display and Visual Merchandising and showcases works of 36 amazingly talented artists and studios from all over the world.

This is what idN. says:
Windows onto a New World of Creativity and Ingenuity

When people say they’re going window-shopping, it usually means to look in a variety of shop windows and get a general idea of what’s on offer. But of course, if they happen to spot something that really takes their fancy, and at the right price, they will probably buy it. So shop-window displays have a dual role: to impress by reflecting the shop’s brand image in the best light and thus encourage return visits, but also to attract with what’s on show and if possible entice the customer inside there and then. (…)

Our contributors to this special feature have plenty to say on the subject, as well as examples to show. We are sure that anyone seeking to emulate them will find it inspiring and that even those designers who do not intend to enter this specialist field will be intrigued by the challenges it offers and the ingenious solutions to them that have been arrived at.”

The magazine can be purchased online with idN. or wherever you find international press.

IlloStories ‘ArtistWeLove’, September 2019 &
2 useful and *FREE* PDFs to help you illustrate

IlloStories was a collaboration of artists Deborah Stein (Bonbon Oiseau) and Erica Root publishing monthly workbooks for illustrators and artists – filled with themes around children’s books illustration with weekly prompts, and followed by an active online community. Their workbooks were pure inspiration, so I was more than happy when they asked me to contribute something!

I joined Deb in two Facebook Live events discussing all kinds things ranging from how my fine arts background informs my illustration work, pointers for making great compositions and other technical stuff, and also got into our ideas about work/life balance and formulas to conquer getting sidetracked. We spoke about the importance of mentors and the business of becoming a working illustrator.

When I was writing my contribution for the IlloStories workbook, I realized how prevalent the combination of opposites is to my work, be it that I combine different cultures within me, that I work in a range of mediums, or that I go between analog and digital media, between art and craft, etc. All those elements create a unique ‘Maria’ style and body of work. So, I created a guide and set of handy tools to use in your illustration.
